About Me: Tell us about yourself/or your love for classic movies
I have been a classic movie fan since I was a little kid. I grew up in Madison, Wisconsin and the local TV stations in the 1960's and 1970's played classic films on Friday nights, Saturday, and Sunday in various time slots. Mostly on Friday evenings the midnight show played classic sci-fi and horror. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons I could see films like the Sherlock Holmes, Charlie Chan, Tarzan, Jungle Jim etc. etc.

It wasn't until about 15 years ago that I really started taking an interest in classic films when I stumbled upon Turner Classic Movies in the early 1990's and tuned into a Humphrey Bogart festival. After that my interest has steadily grown.

I co-administrate a message board/forum with a great fellow movie lover named Derek/Classic Movie Man. It's also called The Golden Age of Hollywood and a link to it can be found below. Please feel free to join!

In case you are wondering about my handle it is because I am also a huge Star Trek fan. My first name is Kevin and so the "K" with trek = Ktrek. It's a handle I have used for many years on the internet and telenet before that, but being a Star Trek fan doesn't make me any less of a classic movie lover!

Hi, Kevin. I wish I could comment or reply to your fundraiser post, but there doesn't seem to be a way. I just sent you some cash. Thank you for not giving up on us!

Thank you for welcoming me back to GAOH. I was sad to find my account gone after my active participation in the past. I look forward to more fun discussions about the old movies I love with other members who appreciate them as I do.

Thank you Kevin for welcoming me to your wonderful site. This will definitely be a go to for me. I broke my favorites down in genres because as you can see the list is quite extensive and it would be way to much to have it run all together.

Hi Kevin, I have Name that Star up and running with a new game for September.  Just wondering is there any way that the group's activity could show up on the Main Page, like it does for The Game, Connect the Stars, etc.? William is my sole player at the moment (although its only been up for 15 mins! lol).  I did email the members to let them know there is a new game btw.

Hi Kevin, loving the Jean Harlow pic on the main page. I only just noticed... I was wondering something.  Would it be ok for me to have a bash at doing a Name That Star game?  I miss that game.  It was a lot of fun.  I can get the pics together if you think I'd be suitable to do that for one month?

Thanks.  I may take a while getting to learn my way around.  Looks like fun for old flicker-heads like myself.

Apparently, most millennials have never seen a classic movie. Pretty sad really, but not surprising. Check out this article:

I'm moving!

Just wanted all my friends here at GAOH know that if you see very little of me for a while it's because my wife and I are retiring and relocating from Texas to Tennessee. We went on vacation there in early June and decided that was where we wanted to retire to. Last week we…

On Dave Kehr and “Movies That Mattered”

When I was in the film program at Northwestern University in Chicago, my peers and I were required to read the works of Walter Benjamin, John Berger, Michel Foucault and even Freud, Jung and Marx. The idea was to apply their theories to the cinema to better understand how film worked, or how it related […]

Making the Leap: Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. and Talkies

To view The Private Life of Don Juan click here. Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. made his last movie in 1934. The Private Life of Don Juan was, quite accidentally, a fitting farewell to one of the first megastars of the movie industry. It wasn’t clear while filming it that it would be Fairbanks’ last movie but […]

The Greatest Early Douglas Sirk: Lured (1947)

To view Lured click here. Writer and director Douglas Sirk is mainly known today for his exquisite technicolor melodramas, such as Magnificent Obsession (1954), All That Heaven Allows (1955), Written on the Wind (1956) and Imitation of Life (1959), his last feature-length film. His work throughout the 1950s, and specifically these four films, are not […]
