I have created a new group (pending approval) dedicated to discussions of the films of John Ford. I have forty-four Ford films in my collection, from the silents The Iron Horse and 3 Bad Men to Donovan's Reef and 7 Women. I realize in some instances there may be overlap with the Classic Westerns group but I wanted to create a group exclusively concerning the films of Ford. I want to invite…

Hello Carter! Somehow I failed to greet you when you joined The Golden Age of Hollywood. I hope you are enjoying the site. That's a good size collection you have. Are all those purchased films or are some ones that you have recorded or traded for?

I too an a Karloff and Bogie fan. In fact my current love of classic films was a renaissance for me when TCM had a Bogart marathon of his films back in the early 90s. I was divorced from my first wife and was alone much of the time when I was not working and I started to watch and record movies on TCM. I became a huge fan of Bogart as a result and that led to me watching and learning more and more about classic films. However, I have had some interest most of my life because of local stations where I grew up (Madison, WI) played many of the classic horror, sci-fi, adventure and mystery films that I still love so much to this day.

Since you are a huge Karloff fan you should "friend" Dave Miller, mo co-admin because Karloff is his favorite!

Affairs of the Heart: The Wedding Night (1935)

To view The Wedding Night click here. The Wedding Night was doomed from the start. It was producer Samuel Goldwyn’s final attempt at making the Ukrainian actress Anna Sten into a Garbo-level star, and his persistence had become something of a Hollywood joke. The Wedding Night became known around town as “Goldwyn’s Last Sten,” but […]

Murnau and the Phantoms of Germany

To view Phantom click here. It’s that time of year when Nosferatu (1922), F.W. Murnau’s interpretation of Dracula, appears on lists of recommended horror films. The oldest, existing film version of Bram Stoker’s novel, Nosferatu is likely Murnau’s most watched title. It’s eerie Expressionist style was a major influence on the American horror genre, but […]
