I really love The Trouble With Angels, The Hitch-Hiker and The Bigamist. Actually, they're all really good but those are the ones I watch the most. As for tv shows, The Masks episode of The Twilight Zone was great, and I also really like the episode of Screen Directors Playhouse that she directed. She directed episodes of so many of my favorite tv shows, I think there are too many to list.
What's your favorite(s) movie or tv episode directed by Ida?
Me too! Ida was the first woman to direct herself in a major (theatrical released) film.
How impressive was Ida Lupino? From Wikipedia about "The Twilight Zone" :
"The Masks" was directed by Ida Lupino, who had starred in the first-season episode "The Sixteen-Millimeter Shrine". She was the only person in the history of the original Twilight Zone to have acted in one episode and directed another. She was also the only woman to direct a Twilight Zone episode."
I remember "The Sixteen Millimetre Shrine" as one of the first episodes of the TZ I saw in the 1980s. Lupino has a magnetic screen presence and in "The Masks" she directed one of the most memorable stories with a truly haunting finale. She was respected as a female television director in an almost completely male dominated arena.
Intelligent, creative, sincere and not exactly unkind on the eye she is nowadays being appreciated for the tour de force that she really was.
