yet another great hollywood leading man who graced us with his everyman, down-to-the-ground song and dance man personality, as well as being a great actor. i won't dare say he's better than Fred Astaire. both had their own styles and uniquenesses: Astaire always the "high society" type who danced "to the clouds", while Kelly was the persona i described above. both resprected each other greatly and even worked together once. for me, the two Ultimate song and dance men.

I have to agree, of all the current stars today Kristen Stewart? Oh well. My 4 kids are developing a love of classic films and before I dropped them off at school today my 5 year-old twin boys requested that we watch "Singin' in the Rain". I'm a very proud mama. XD

Is that Bernadette Peters? I haven't checked that site out. I guess they did it because she has done some musicals on Broadway.

Ooh, I missed The Black Hand. That's what I get for not checking in every day!

Hi. I just joined...is this the first comment? Woo-hoo! Singin' In The Rain is my favorite musical. Question...did Gene Kelly direct many non-musical films? I know he did at least one...the comedy-western The Cheyenne Social Club co-starring James Stewart and Henry Fonda. I think Gene Kelly is from Pittsburgh...I've been there many times as I live in nearby West Virginia.

Affairs of the Heart: The Wedding Night (1935)

To view The Wedding Night click here. The Wedding Night was doomed from the start. It was producer Samuel Goldwyn’s final attempt at making the Ukrainian actress Anna Sten into a Garbo-level star, and his persistence had become something of a Hollywood joke. The Wedding Night became known around town as “Goldwyn’s Last Sten,” but […]

Murnau and the Phantoms of Germany

To view Phantom click here. It’s that time of year when Nosferatu (1922), F.W. Murnau’s interpretation of Dracula, appears on lists of recommended horror films. The oldest, existing film version of Bram Stoker’s novel, Nosferatu is likely Murnau’s most watched title. It’s eerie Expressionist style was a major influence on the American horror genre, but […]
